Project: Wheatley Farms and Arts
Brookville, NY
Summary:
A multi-function indoor/outdoor creativity and wellness center
dedicated to the education of people with developmental disabilities.
Phase 1 consisted of renovating the garage/barn building
into a creativity center opening to a brick patio and accessible
raised gardening areas. Additional site modifications include the widening of the driveway, new brick entrance walls and estate fencing and the use of turf-stone permeable pavers for multi-use exterior spaces. The interior of the creativity center was covered with a
decorative concrete floor, exposed mechanical systems,
live edge shelving and wood siding to give the space
a feel of a “barn aesthetic”.Interior windows of the creativity center overlook into the
two-story barn which houses goats, horses, and a pig,
while the lower yard contains a chicken coop.
Phase 2 will renovate the main house to allow spaces
for pottery, music, dance and yoga and will
also add a staff apartment and office space.
